Author ‘s Inspiration
The Father’s Son is my first attempt at Historical Fiction. Following in my mother’s footsteps I found great pleasure in browsing libraries to develop mental concepts of cultural, political, and military events. At the University I found myself spending many hours browsing the stacks for new and interesting literature. More recently, not having a great university library available, I turned to the internet.
The history of England, in particular, is compelling if for no other reason than there are so many Kings and Queens. Their ruthless and bloody reigns easily grab my attention. It was while reading about them that I came upon the Scandinavian Kings. I said to myself where did they come from. So, I followed the historical trail to Denmark and Norway and found the sagas of the Viking most interesting. Especially that the facts didn’t always sync with the popular genre of the Viking. After a few years of study, I had amassed enough information that I was able to begin forming a story. The rest fell into place.
The writing of the Lord of the Plains came in a similar manner. The celebration of the one-hundred- fifty anniversary celebration of the Chisolm Trail and close proximity of the locations seemed to come together easily. Writing gives me much enjoyment and provides a media I can use to discuss my views of life and living that could not otherwise express to the world.
